I came across the above quote while researching information for this forum. While this may apply for the purposes of the above Directgov department, I certainly don't believe that the term 'Carer' should, or even does, exclude 'professional' Carers. There are many Caring Organisations out there, and those who work for them do so in a Caring capacity. Nursing is a 'Caring' profession. Mental Health or Abuse Councelling is a 'Caring' profession. Residential Home Staff are working in a 'Caring' profession. And there are others. If people didn't 'Care' they wouldn't do these jobs in the first place. Of course, there are many people who care for loved ones, a neighbour or friend on a voluntary basis, or perhaps out of a sense of 'duty', but whatever the reason, whatever the situation, these people are all 'Carers' without who'm those who are dependant on them would suffer immensely. This Support forum is for 'all' Carers to share experiences and information and to help each other as and when needed. I sincerely hope it serves it's purpose. Best Wishes Carer (admin)
